Local Community Rallies to Restore Historic Park

June 4, 2025 — In an inspiring show of unity, dozens of volunteers gathered at Taman Merdeka this weekend to begin a major restoration effort for the city’s oldest public park.

Organized by the non-profit group Green Heritage Foundation, the event attracted both young and old residents who worked together to clean, plant trees, repaint benches, and restore old pathways.

“This park holds so many memories for our neighborhood,” said local resident Nur Aini, who has lived near the park for over 30 years. “It’s heartwarming to see everyone coming together to bring it back to life.”

“We aim to make Taman Merdeka a safe, green space for future generations,” said project coordinator Rizal Mahendra.

According to city officials, the restoration is expected to be completed by mid-July. Plans include improved lighting, security cameras, and new playground equipment funded by public donations and government grants.
